In Memory of Skyler Hainer and Mic McCallum

By Selfish Things

Skyler Hainer and Mic McCallum were two individuals who supported their respective communities through love, service, humour, and kindness.

After receiving in-patient treatment after many hospitalizations, I exited CAMH in June of 2022 to begin my journey in sobriety, with very little community after the damage years of touring did to my body, spirit, and those around me.

Skyler and I met a month before my one year sobriety party. He was (as many of you who met him know), our neighbourhood golden retriever. Nobody was a stranger, everybody was a friend, and as his mom so eloquently put it, "everyone called him their best friend." He was there for you when you needed him, and his kindness extended to my father over many rounds of golf with different friends in the summer.

Mic McCallum was our front of house engineer during an integral part of our bands existence. From running the board for us during our tour with Simple Plan to handling festival shows in front of thousands of people, he was steadfast, reliable, and a man I looked up to. In Windsor where he lived, he worked to support the unhoused, the underserved, and the marginalized.

As a mental health practitioner supporting the humans of the music industry and those in recovery, I believe that the best way through grief is to be of service to those in need. And, having been saved by the groundbreaking work of CAMH (who still continue to support me through my sobriety and mental health journey), I can think of no better place and no better way to honour both of them to give light to those who are still struggling in the darkness.

Everything beautiful blooms from the mud. And, together, we can shine some lights on some seeds that have been planted in an attempt to allow our garden of healing to bloom together.

Consequently, any and all profits from our final album (including merch and vinyl sales) will be directed to CAMH in support of those still in need.

The larger portion of this fundraiser will be announced after Selfish Things' final show on Sunday, October 18th, 2026.
